A quarter century of commitment to change and connection

De Omslag celebrates its 25th anniversary! What began as an initiative of a network of social organizations has grown into a leading knowledge network committed to an inclusive economy and society. De Omslag is known for its unique approach to networking, based on working from the inside out, bottom-up and together to achieve change.

Origins of De Omslag

The establishment of De Omslag in 1998 stemmed from a growing sense of urgency among professionals in care, welfare and education. They saw how the focus on efficiency and control came at the expense of the human dimension. De Omslag became a hub for new orientations, with the aim of tackling social problems based on solidarity and community. First by protecting and developing facilities, later by supporting the movement of social enterprises and in recent years by restoring empowerment, ownership and trust.

De Omslag today

De Omslag works tirelessly to strengthen networks and share and develop knowledge. With themes such as the social economy, inclusion and participation, the interests of the people involved are always paramount. Through initiatives such as “Meetellen” (Counting In), De Omslag contributes to ensuring that all people feel ownership of their own work, care and life. Together with partners from education, business and social organizations, De Omslag promotes co-creation and encourages innovative development practices, such as social procurement, participatory research and cooperative corporate governance.

The foundation puts its ideals into practice, for example by purchasing socially itself, employing people and choosing co-management as a guiding principle. De Omslag is not only supportive, but also guiding in the social domain.

Looking to the future

In the coming years, De Omslag will focus on increasing and sustaining its impact. By making courageous choices and creating space for experimentation, the foundation continues to work towards a society in which everyone participates. We are strengthening the social and solidarity economy and facilitating that ‘courageous space’ for innovation. Together with allies, participants and stakeholders, De Omslag continues to build an inclusive future, in which reciprocity and solidarity form the basis.
