"It is our aspiration that all people of Amsterdam with disabilities have an opportunity to become participants in our city"

participatory entrepreneurship

learning from European social cooperatives

The project distinguishes between service providers in care and welfare and WISES (Work Integration Social Enterprises). Both often have a cooperative governance model. This model does justice to the values ??of social entrepreneurship, but also offers an opportunity for empowerment and inclusion.

In the best practices studied, that is not abstract but daily practice. Employees become members of the cooperative and trained. They are co-owners with the mission, management and entrepreneurial skills.

The most important aspects were discussed in the panel discussions, such as the degree of control, management models but also the attitude that is needed to achieve this complex but inclusive management.

You are not there with a legal model. It is a daily job to shape and maintain co-operation. Interesting are the dilemmas associated with such complex organizations. There are issues around the scale, context and attitude of conducting a sustainable participative company.

That’s nice. De Omslag intends to share and advance the collected knowledge and experience in Amsterdam from this project and together with European partners. The results of Rights2Grow will be published in September and we will complete this for Amsterdam.
