"It is our aspiration that all people of Amsterdam with disabilities have an opportunity to become participants in our city"

Councilor Alexander Scholtes on a working visit to Daytime activity providers

Councilor Alexander Scholtens visited Amsterdam based daytime activity initiatives. This visit underlined the importance of good guidance, learning new skills and the role of the municipality and companies in supporting social firms for an inclusive future.

On Friday, October 11, councilor Alexander Scholtes visited Roads Recycle at De Hallen. Also present were representatives of Zeefdrukmakers, Cre8 Social Venture, Cordaan, and De Omslag. The importance of daytime activities, working in social firms, following training, and being able to grow into paid work was discussed. As well as taking a step back when things don’t go according to plan.

The people from Recycle and Screen Printers explained how important daytime activities are to them. In addition to concrete daily activities, it was said that it is also important for them to learn new skills, to have good guidance, and being supported in realizing your ambition. For some, this also entails moving on to paid work. Cre8 Social Venture, Roads and Cordaan showed what they are doing in this regard. To achieve this, it helps if companies, and certainly the municipality, purchase more products from social firms so that more can be invested in employees who are employed or who provide daytime activities.

To conclude the working visit, all attendees discussed what is already working well and what should be developed further by providers in partnership with the municipality.
